Understanding the root causes of maternal mortality and pregnancy-related issues is crucial in order to make meaningful progress towards improving Black maternal health. Research has shown that factors such as lack of access to quality healthcare, systemic racism, implicit bias, and socioeconomic disparities all play a significant role in the disproportionate rates of maternal deaths among Black women.
