Area V Community Partnerships Chairs (Trusted Messengers/ Vaccination Ambassadors) Strategy Meeting
Shared chapter activities and ideas; and discussed and planned strategies for encouraging and convincing youth, parents and families to get vaccinated. Planned Strategies to prepare families for vaccinations:
1. Share honest, simple information with children or teens before they receive their shots
2. Be patient
3. Ask questions
4. Plan ways to help them cope by letting them choose if they would like to bring a comfort item to their appointment or what they would like to do for distraction.
Other strategies discussed/Planned to promote vaccine uptake with families. How to encourage parents to vaccinate their children:
1. Be open about what is known about immunizations and what is not known.
2. Provide parents with Vaccine Information Statements, educational resources, and reliable websites.
3. Personalize the information provided to parents based on cultural beliefs, vaccine concerns, and literacy level.
4. Technology/send phone and text reminders for vaccine appointments.
5. Reach out to school nurses and staff to collaborate and partner on school-based vaccination education and administration of vaccinations at schools and/or in partnership with local health departments.
